The
Abbey Theatre
The
Abbey Theatre is Ireland's National Theatre. The Abbey Theatre was
founded in 1898. It is the prime venue for Irish writers & Irish
drama throughout its years.
The
present building opened for business in 1966. It replaces the
original Abbey Theatre, which was destroyed by fire in 1951. The
present Abbey Theatre is rebuilt on the same site as the former
Abbey Theatre.
Many
Irish classics are staged at The Abbey Theatre, on a
regular basis.
The
Peacock Theatre is co-sited with The Abbey Theatre. It is a smaller
venue than The Abbey Theatre. Smaller budget productions by younger
less well known
local writers stage their drama here.
The
Abbey Theatre is a short walk from The Anchor Guesthouse, being about
a 400 metres walk.
The
Abbey Theatre has a box office, worth calling, to reserve or to
obtain late cancellation seats.
